Classes
Each class has its own teacher and its own night, and every one starts with the same warm-up.
Counting the beat, a first groove and a short combination, in a class of up to 8.
Hip hop first stepsGrooves, footwork and a routine that grows over the session, in a class of up to 10.
Hip hopHip hop for dancers who want to work on one routine together for showcase night, in a class of up to 12.
Showcase crewSharp, smooth jazz with a warm-up, a short combination and a cool-down, in three age groups.
JazzShowcase night
We chose a showcase night over a recital, and we chose it on purpose. Once a year, in May, families come into the studio, every class shares one routine, and then everyone dances together.
Dancers wear what they wear to class, so there are no costumes to order and no hall to rent.

About showcase nightSample dates.
Three teachers share the week at Hustle, and each leads the classes you see on the schedule.

Director, hip hop first steps and showcase crew
Alecia opened Hustle after teaching hip hop in Houston studios, and she leads the youngest hip hop class and the showcase crew. She speaks Spanish with families who prefer it, and she answers the studio phone on Saturday mornings.

Hip hop, ages 8 to 10
Rahsaan teaches the grooves and footwork that hip hop starts from, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. He grew up on the east side of Houston and has taught kids for most of his working life.

Jazz, ages 5 to 12
Tejal leads every jazz class, from the first Tuesday class for ages 5 to 7 to the Thursday class for ages 10 to 12. She trained in more than one style, and she likes to give a class a combination it can finish in a night.

“My daughter asked for hip hop after a cousin's party. The first class was a warm-up and one short combination, and she was already counting the beats in the car.”
“Rahsaan keeps his class moving and still stops to show a step a second time. My son goes straight to the studio floor on Saturday mornings.”
“We asked about costumes at the first visit and got a plain answer about showcase night. That's the reason we stayed.”
