Family policies

Whether you may watch, what to wear, who collects, and how phones and photos are handled.

Photos of your child

We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.

Watching class and recitals

Families of dancers ages 5 to 7 are welcome to wait in the lobby, which has a window onto Studio A. Every session has a watch week, when families come into the studio and watch the class from the floor. On other days we keep the door closed so dancers can hear their teacher. Showcase night is open to every family, and your own photos and video of your dancer from the floor are welcome, without flash.

What to wear and bring

Wear clothes you can move in, a top and bottoms with some stretch, and clean sneakers that stay in the studio for hip hop. For jazz, a leotard or fitted top with leggings, and jazz shoes or bare feet to start. Hair is up and off the face, and jewelry stays home apart from stud earrings. For showcase night each class picks a color, and dancers wear it from their own closet.

When to keep your child home

Please keep your dancer home with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, and until they have been well for a full day. If something hurts, tell the teacher before class, and we will change what the dancer does that day.

Drop-off and pickup

A grown-up brings and collects every dancer in ages 5 to 7, and the teacher hands each child to the person who came with them. For older dancers, the door opens ten minutes before class, and we ask you to tell us who is collecting. We ask for ID from anyone we haven't met, and we wait with a dancer until their grown-up arrives.

Absences and late arrival

Message the studio when a dancer will miss a class, and we will tell you how to make it up in another class of the same age group. A missed class can be made up within the same session.

Closures for weather and holidays

We close for Thanksgiving week and the winter break. When the area schools close for a storm or flooding, we close too, and we text every family that morning. A class lost to weather is made up with an extra class later in the session.

Screens and phones

Phones stay in bags during class. A teacher may record a short piece of a routine so that dancers can practice at home, and we share it only with that class's families. Please don't film other people's dancers in the studio. On showcase night, filming your own dancer from the floor is welcome.

Something we missed?

Ask us, or come and see the studio at a trial class.
