Ages 5 to 12

Jazz, in three age groups

Jazz is sharper and smoother than hip hop, with kicks, turns and a combination that travels across the floor. There are three groups, ages 5 to 7, 8 to 10 and 10 to 12, and Tejal teaches all of them.

  • Ages 5 to 12, in three groups

  • Forty-five minutes for ages 5 to 7, an hour for older dancers

  • Classes of up to 8, 10 and 12

  • Taught by Tejal Kale

In class

What a class is like

  1. 01

    Step 1: Warm-up

A warm-up to music that gets everyone moving, then a stretch.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Across the floor

Walks, kicks and turns, one line at a time, so everyone has room.

  3. 03

    Step 3: A combination

A short combination in counts of eight, taught in small pieces.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Cool-down

A slow stretch and a few words about what comes next week.

First class

Before the first class

  • What to wear

Fitted clothes you can move in, a leotard or a top with leggings, and jazz shoes or bare feet to start.

  • Which group

Ages 5 to 7, 8 to 10 and 10 to 12. Tejal will place your dancer after a trial class.

  • Where grown-ups wait
